Association between rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus
The facial rash, along with inflammation in other organs, can be precipitated or worsened by exposure to sunlight, a condition called photosensitivity. A possible association between rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus has been suggested, and systemic lupus erythematosus may be associated with an increased risk of bone fractures in relatively young women.
Lupus occurs when your immune system attacks healthy tissue in your body. Outside of random occurrences of lupus, certain drugs, toxins, and diets have been linked in its development. Scientists believe there is no single gene that predisposes people to lupus. It is not uncommon for a person with lupus to have a group or team of doctors working together to help develop the best treatment plan for him.
